KANAWHA PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD

August 10, 2026

The regular monthly meeting was opened at 5:01 pm by President Ray Basset. Attending were Mary, Carmen, Aimee, and Christine.

 

The July minutes were approved as read.

 

There weren't any public comments.

 

A motion was made by Mary and seconded by Aimee to approve the July Financial and Circulation reports. Carried.

 

Director's report;

We finished the summer reading program with making ice cream; attendance was up from previous years. Christine filed Open Access report which gives libraries credit for check outs from our materials to their patrons. She filed Direct State Aid report - this year reported all money used for computer repair last July. Christine scheduled set up for monthly library programming starting in September; adding an afternoon movie for adults each month - was well received last year West Hancock early outs for kid activities, Saturday story time, adult activity days, and adult book club once a month. She ordered lots of new books since because of the budget constraint she went for two months without orders except for necessary summer reading materials. We were selected by Uplift Book club to receive 10 free copies of September club book: There Is No Place For Us - Working & Homeless in America by Brian Goldstone. A motion was made by Aimee and seconded by Mary to approve the Director's report. Carried.

Trustee Training - We reviewed the Hancock County Libraries Report; Mission & Values Discussion--15 minutes reviewing the handouts and our current 3.1 policy along with discussion. Trustees were to review and come prepared to discuss at the next meeting.

 

The next meeting is scheduled for September 14 @ 5 pm.

 

A motion was made by Mary and seconded by Carmen to adjourn the meeting at 5:31 pm. Carried.
